Learning a new language can sometimes be overwhelming. But it\u2019s also incredibly rewarding. This challenge can be discouraging to many new speakers, making conversational fluency seem far away. The truth is, with the right approach you can improve much faster than you think. I want to explain how to learn Spanish faster even as a beginner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From my own experience learning Spanish and living in Cusco, Peru, I have realized that learning a new language isn’t about perfection-it’s about consistency, immersion and actively practicing the language every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus on the Most Important Words First<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A common mistake beginners make, is trying to learn everything at once. As with almost all areas of language acquisition, it is a process, you build off the basics so it’s important to focus on those first. You can effectively communicate with just the basics, in fact the most common 1000 words make up the majority of everyday conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To start, try to work on useful vocabulary such as numbers, directions, food and greetings. You can even work on essential verbs such as estar, ser, ir, hacer<\/em> and tener. <\/em>It might help you to even learn whole phrases instead of individual words. Phrases like \u201cCu\u00e1nto cuesta<\/em>?\u201d or \u201c\u00bfD\u00f3nde est\u00e1<\/em>\u2026?\u201d can help you communicate faster and with ease in real conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start Speaking From Day One<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many learners wait until they feel they are ready or comfortable to begin speaking. Unfortunately that day never really comes without doing it first. The fastest way to learn and improve is to start speaking immediately. Even if you only know a few phrases. This is essential to the learning process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t need to have perfect grammar to communicate. It’s the effort that matters. One of the best ways to learn is to speak with native speakers. In my experience speaking with locals here in Peru is what improved my progress the most. They will appreciate the effort and they will usually help you correct any mistakes you’ve made. Everyday, simple actions such as ordering food, or asking for directions can build your confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immerse Yourself in Spanish Everyday<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Immersion is one of the fastest ways to learn a new language. The more you are surrounded by Spanish, the easier it will be for you. It will become natural for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you aren’t in the position to do an exchange or immersion program there are still ways you can immerse yourself. You can do things like changing your phone settings to Spanish, watching t.v. shows or movies in Spanish, or following spanish speaking influencers on social media. These small changes will influence you a lot over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like I said before, consistency is key when learning a new language. Even just 30 minutes a day can help you progress much faster if you stay consistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
