Cusco is a region located in the southeast of Peru, in the highlands of the country. Its elevation is around 3400 meters (11 200 ft). It is advisable to rest the first few days in order to acclimatise to the altitude.
Cusco was the capital of the Inca empire, that consisted of Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, part of Argentina and Peru. It has been considered a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site since 1983 because of the vast number historical sites. It is considered as the Rome of America.

Despite many attractions and a booming tourist industry, however, many people in Cusco and its surroundings are still living in poverty.
There is a great need for many essential services in areas such as education, childcare, medicine, animal care and environmental conservation.
A large variety of non-profit organisations in Cusco work to help people and animals in need.
Proyecto Peru collaborates with these organisations, helping them to find volunteers like you who can assist with their projects, matching your availability, skills and interests with where there is a need.
If you are taking Spanish classes or staying in our apartment or homestay accommodations, we can coordinate your volunteer placement for free.
All that you´ll pay is a small donation direct to the project of your choice.
