What is Proyecto Peru Centre

Proyecto Peru Centre is a volunteer, internship and language immersion organization based in Cusco, Peru. We connect international participants with local community projects, Spanish and Quechua language classes, internships and cultural experiences

What programs do you offer?

We offer a range of programs, including volunteering placements, internships, Spanish and Quechua language courses, accommodation options and guided tours.

Is Proyecto Peru an NGO?

Proyecto Peru is a private organization with a social mission. We work with local nonprofit organizations some of which are NGOs.

What languages are used?

Spanish is the primary language for classes and daily life experiences, but English, German and other languages are commonly spoken among participants and staff.

Participation Requirements

Who can join our programs?

People from all over the world of various ages and backgrounds who want to learn Spanish, volunteer, intern or immerse culturally in Peru. Specific programs may have age, language, qualification or skill requirements noted on their pages.

Do I need prior Spanish experience?

For our Spanish Immersion programs there is no prior level requirement. Each of our seperate volunteer and internship projects has its own level requirement vary from none to conversational.

What documents do I need?

You should have a valid passport and depending on nationality a valid tourism Visa for Peru. Some internships or volunteer preograms may require additional paperwork or certificates. Volunteers and Interns are asked to submit and up to date CV/Resume

Is insurance required?

We strongly recommend ensuring that you appropriate travel and medical insurance coverage for the duration of your stay.

Booking, Pricing and Payment

How do I book a program?

You can book directly through this website on our program pages or through our package builder linked below. You can also contact us on info@proyectoperucentre.org for booking assitance.

When do I need to pay?

Payment terms vary by program. Payment is generally required at time of booking. If you have questions about payments pleae contact info@proyectoperucentre.org

What payment methods are accepted?

Our prefered payment method is through Wise. Full payment information including alternative options are provided with your booking invoice.

Arrival, Support and Safety

Do you provide airport pickup?

Yes airport pickup is provided with all of our packages. We can also arrange pickup at the main train station in Cusco or at a bus drop off point if required.

Will I have support while I’m in Cusco?

A local support team is available 24/7 for emergencies, guidance and assistance throughout your stay.

Is Cusco safe?

Cusco is generally safe for travellers. As with any international travel we recommend being aware of your surroundings. especially when walking alone or at night. You can read more about Cusco in the about section of this website.

Accommodation

What accommodation options do you offer?

We offer a Volunteer House with shared and private rooms, and homestay placements with local families.

Can I cook my own meals?

Yes, in the Volunteer House you have access to a fully equipped kitchen. Those staying with homestay families have 3 meals provided each day.

Is bedding included?

Yes, bedding is provided and regularly cleaned in both the volunter house and homestays.

Is there a curfew?

There is no formal curfew in the Volunteer House, but quiet hours after 10 pm are requested to respect all residents.

Are accommodations close to classes and projects?

The Volunteer House is located in the same building as the language school and is close to bus stop enabling access to projects across the city. Homestays are provided across the city, however all are within easy reach of Cusco's bus network which is both regular and low-cost.

Volunteering & Internships

What types of volunteer projects are available?

Projects include childcare and education, animal care, medical support, environmental and cultural preservation, and community development

Do I need experience?

This will vary by project. Some projects require no specific experience, while others, particularly medical projects, will have set requirements. Please review the progam pages or contact info@proyectoperucentre.org for more infromation.

How long can I volunteer or intern?

Durations are flexible although some projects have minimum time commitments ranging from 1 week to 4 weeks. Longer periods ranging from a few weeks to several months are also popular.

Will I be placed with a partner organisation?

All of our volunteering programs and the majority of our internships are placements with local partner programs in and around Cusco. We also offer marketing and operations internships as members of the Proyecto Peru team.

Language Courses

What language courses do you offer?

We offer a variety of language courses including Spanish Immersion, specialized medical Spanish, and Quechua. We also offer English classes to local students in Cusco.

Are online classes available?

Yes, all of our language courses are available both in-person and online.

Are classes one-on-one?

Depending on the course you may have the option of one-to-one classes or small group classes. Our groups are limited to a maximum of 5 and students will always be of a similar level.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes! A certificate will be provided upon completion of your course.

Tours and Cultural Activities

What tours do you offer?

We offer a wide variety of tours including famous trekking experiences such as the classic Inca Trail or Salkantay trek, and visits to Machu Picchu or Rainbow Mountain.

Do I need to book tours in advance?

Tours can be booked in advance or during your time at Proyecto Peru. We do however strongly recommend booking your Machu Picchu visit or any tour which includes it as early as possible as tickets often sell out weeks or even months in advance.

Do you have day trips?

Yes, we offer several one day tours.
