You can visit Machu Picchu in a number of ways, from the classic trek or alternatives hikes, to the scenic rail route, or even by road. Proyecto Peru works with experienced certifies guides to ensure you get an incredible once-in a lifetime experience.
When Should I Book?
We recommend booking your trek or tour to Machu Picchu as early as possible. Demand for tickets is very high and the Peruvian government places strict limits on the number of people who can enter the archeological site each day. Similar limits apply to the number of hikers allowed on the Inca Trail. Entry tickets are included in all of the tours and treks listed below unless we advise you otherwise. Classic Inka Trail
The most famous route to Machu Picchu, this iconic hike covers the historic route to the citadel. Access to route is strictly limited, and hikers have access to a number of different ruins and spots of natural beauty along the way. On the final day you enter Machu Picchut via the Sun Gate, giving incredible views of the city below.

Salkantay Trek
A popular alternative , the Salkantay Trek is both the longest and flattest of the well-known routes to Machu Picchu. It is a great option for nature lovers, offering incredible views of mountains, lakes and Andean cloud forest.
It also features varied accommodation and a night in Aguascalientes.
5 Days – 4 Nights
Inka Jungle Trek
Designed for the bold and adventure-hungry traveler, this 4-day route seamlessly merges mountain biking and hiking, leading you from the Amazon jungle all the way to Machu Picchu.
The return journey is by train, and optional extras like zip-lining and rafting offer an electrifying approach to the hidden city

Machu Picchu by Train
Ideal for a swift visit without trekking. Journey by bus to Ollantaytambo and then take the scenic train route to Augas Calientes. Stay overnight and then travel up to the ruins by bus. Return by the same methods after your visit. Entrance ticket included.

Machu Picchu by Minibus
Embark on a scenic bus journey followed by a delightful 2-hour walk on flat terrain to reach the charming town of Aguas Calientes for an overnight stay. The following day, ascend to the ruins by bus, with the entrance to Machu Picchu included in the package.
