Project description

In this project, you will work together with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture. The main objective is the preservation and protection of archaeological sites, mainly Inca Ruins.

You will support the local workers in all types of activities, from protecting and restoring archaeological sites to cleaning, maintaining, and registering these sites.

Tasks

  • Measure the prehispanic area of the archaeological parc of Ollantaytambo (PAO) and the area of the "cien ventanas" (100 windows)
  • Cleaning of prehispanic objects
  • Maintanance of prehispanic walls and canals
  • Clean and maintain archaeological sites
  • Restore missing parts of prehispanic walls and floors
  • Support in the registration of archaeological sites
  • Sometimes there are opportunities to join an expedition to ruins outside Olantaytambo

Work gear

You may get a little dirty, so bring old clothes and shoes and also a hat against the sun!

Accommodation

In this program, you will stay with a host family in Urubamba. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will have the opportunity to discover a small Peruvian town and the beautiful mountains that surround it. You will get an authentic Peruvian experience with 3 Peruvian meals a day and a friendly family to practice Spanish with and exchange your cultures.

Good to know

Working hours depend mostly on the tasks of the day.

Take into account that this project requires a good physical state, dont be afraid of getting a little dirty!

The project is each month from the 1st till the 22nd. From November to March it is closed, due to the rainy season.
